Finale– Last Chance to View Exhibition

The weekend of the 3rd and 4th March will be the last chance to view the exhibition 'Fisherman, Ferryman, Sailor, Spy' at Southampton's Maritime Museum. The exhibition which charts the fortunes of the Diaper family of Itchen Ferry includes numerous items which have never been on public display before – and are unlikely to be seen in this way ever again. As a climax to the exhibition there will also be a number of talks, walks and dramatic presentations happening over the weekend and the museum will remain open over the lunch-time on Saturday.

Thousands of people have already visited the exhibition and taken part in ten months of events which have included new plays, lectures, guided walks, educational visits, oral history project and concerts. A range of publications have also been produced including a Heritage Trail, Education Trail, and Family Tree book as well as two short documentary films. Plans are also being made for two commemorative books based on new research that has taken place over the course of the exhibition.

Entry to the museum is free and the programme of events run from 10am until 4pm on Saturday at the Maritime Museum; on Sunday morning there is Diaper Family conference taking place at the Dolphin Hotel and on Sunday afternoon a free guided walk leaves from Holy Rood Church on the High Street leaving at 2pm and arriving at the museum at 3pm in time for the last hour of the exhibition.

The exhibition and events programme have been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, with support from Southampton City Council and the Diaper Heritage Association.
